Only received ONE book from the 7 or so books i was supposed to be receiving from pukhtunkhwa recently, but due to excess luguage the rest got left behind and this one made it through……… its a book called, Poems of Khushal Khan Khattak, translated by Evelyn Howell and Olaf Caroe ( author of The Pathans).
I’ve taken a picture of the Pashto text ( the scans were really poor quality) and hope to compile all of the poems and the translations and the roman pashto of each of the poems inshAllah!
Any help would be appreciated inshAllah!

Khattak Baba was great Pashto Poet. Neither and never born like khattak’s personality in the world.

been trying to find stuff related to this, my dad is so passionate about khattak’s work, thought i’d see what the fuss was about
am having trouble locating translated books, didn’t think of transliteration and although like the idea, am finding that there are so many words i don’t know in pushto.
I think some of the words are just difficult pashto words that bilingual pukhtuns brought up abroad might have trouble figuring out!
just got back from work and stumbled upon this site. il translate the poem for those who would like it translated into english. just a bit tired at present so il do it some time in the near future. being a bouncer is a tiring job you know
i would be hounered to put my pukhton brothers and sisters to put them on the way to know khushal or to better understand his poetry by reffering them to read the the book

There are a lot of pushto lyrics and you can easily get hold of one if you kindly go to the library of your area and just look for a book on the history of pushto literature where you will find many a thrilling lyrics by eminent pushto poets both modern and classical. By the way, thank you very much for expressing an interest in pushto poetry. I may note it for your information that to know about the literature of a language, it is essential to have a look of the history of that language which will render a fair insight into every aspect of its literature. The desire for learning pushto literature will take you to the peaks of it. Do not worry, you will have it soon. Ameen.

Thanks to the contributor of Khattak’s short poem. It’s really worth reading and understanding. As the Englishmen say about Shakespeare so do we Pushtoon about Khoshal. Khoshal is ahidden treasury which yet to be explored from all fours. Then ever one can maintain his/her final evaluation of Khattak, the poet-philosopher.

I personally like this ghazal very much… because it’s very much likely to the current situation in/of all the Pashtoons.

Well I’m sure you are rich enough to pay
and you’ll find the money worth spending as it will connect you greatly to your roots…….Mannana.

Now a days people say one Khushal or Quaid-e-Azam or Allama Iqbal or Muhammad bin Qasim needed for renaisane of Muslims or at least guiding them properly. But i wud like to say everybody is Khushal, Quaid-e-Azam Allama Iqbal and Bin Qasim if he/she is sincer to his/her duties. everybody if fulfils his/her duties wil steer the country and even Muslim Ummah out of these crises.

Khushal Khan Khattak was born at Akora Khattak district Nowshera in 1613. He was an intelligent and bold person from childhood. His father Shahbaz Khan was killed in a tribal clash on 4th January, 1641. Mughal Emperor Shahjehan was the ruler of India during that period. Shahjehan had great regard for Khushal Khan Khattak due to the guts that he possessed. Khushal Khan Khattak was the ally of Mughals during many adventures and was awarded a Jagir and Lakhs of rupees.
The distances between the Aurangzeb Allamgir and Khushal Khan Khattak increased due to some misunderstandings and the latter was not remained a favorable person near the former personality.
Mahabat Khan who was the governor of Peshawar had tried to keep the relation between Khushal Khan Khattak and Aurangzeb Alamgir and was successful to a great extent. After Mahabat Khan, Syed Amir Khan was appointed as governor Peshawar then the tension increased between Khushal Khan Khattak and Syed Amir Khan, as a result Khushal Khan Khattak was arrested and put behind the bars. Khushal Khan Khattak was later on released and returned to homeland in 1668, but the relations between government and him remained tense. He was a good poet and religious scholar.
He is also called with the name of Baba-e-Pushto. His poetry consists of more than 45,000 poems. According to some historians the number of books written by him is more than 200. But the books, which enjoyed more fame, are Baz Nama, Fazal Nama, Distar Nama and Farrah Nama. The Mazar of Khushal Khan Khattak is situated near the Railway Station of Akora Khattak in Nowshera district.
It is indeed heartening that the new paktun generation is taking great interest in literature.It is indeed our responsibility to put things in the right perspective by presenting the virtues and the good traditions of the pakhtun qaum.Unfortunately, now a days the pakhtun around the world have been categorised as terrorists by the vested interests and we have to do a lot to wash this wrong impression.
Linking the new generation to literary activities and professing the greatness of the paktun traditions as manifested in our rich heritage and our history, in the works of great leaders like Khushall baba, Rehman baba, Hamza baba and a great deal more, in the great works being currently done by the pukktoon scholars will indeed be a service to our future and current generation.

He was geneous.He was not only a great leader but he was also the greatest poet of Pushto language.His petry is natural.He had total comand on pushto language.He was so learned that he has written verses on almost all subjects.He has written on romance so beautifully
that no other poetry can match it.He has written on huntings,on falconry,on medicinal effects of plants,fruits and vegetable.He has written reportage of Swat.He has written about wars and history.He has written about honour.He has written about habits of various Pakhtun tribes.The following two couplets of great Khusal khan portrays the geneological tree (shajra nasab)of Pakhtuns.

He dialogue with his sweet heart he expresses as under;
“vey me che ze darshama tar zaaya khla ba raake?

HAFIZ-E- ALPURI
A famous Pushto poet and religious scholar.
Shangla is a land of evergreen trees, pastures, cold and sweet springs, singing birds, beautiful waterfalls, waving fields, murmuring streams, snow covered and green mountains, coloured flowers, fragrant air, brave Yousafzai Pushtoon and historical stories which gave birth to great religious scholars, poets, politicians and famous personalities, who raised the heads of Pushtoons with pride in the whole world. Among them one of the famous name is Hafiz-e- Alpuri who as a poet served the Pushto literature a lot.
According to “Tawarikh-e-Rahmat Khwani” of Roshan Khan his real name was Abdul Samad. He opened his eyes in beautiful valley of Ghwarband, Alpuri in Shangla. He belonged to the famous Mandan Yousafzai tribe of Pushtoon. He migrated here from Utmanzi Charsadda and settled here in Shangla.
He was a great poet of Pushto as well as a great religious scholar, a pious person and Hafiz-e- Quran. He was known as Hafiz-e- Alpuri because he had learnt the holy Quran by heart and belonged to village Alpuri. He traveled to Peshawar, Mardan, Buner, Swat and other surrounding areas for getting religious education. He received his early education at Khwaza Khela which was a great centre of Islamic education at that time. When he was born, there was un Islamic customs in Shangla, Swat, Buner, dir, and other surrounding areas. He teach the people to lead their lives according to Islam and expressed his revolutionary thoughts through his poetry to eradicate the un Islamic customs and to enlighten the life of people with Islamic ways of life.
He added a new chapter in Pushto literature by completing a collection of his poetry called Dewan-e- Hafiz-e- Alpuri. Dewan-e- Hafiz-e-Alpuri was published after his death for the first time 1927, and for the second time in 1932.
His poetry is classified into five chapters on the basis of composition. Chapter one contains oneness of God and Prophet hood, second real love with God, third code and conduct of life and fifth counsels and advices.
He used Persian and Arabic words very beautifully in his poetry, He is well known poet of Pushto. Those who have aesthetic sense for poetry and literature know his verses by heart.
He was a staunch, pious and a punctual Muslim scholar. The purpose of his poetry teaches to do the right and condemn the wrong. He loved Islam whole heartedly. His love for All mighty Allah and his prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) is proved by his poetry.
He was the poet of reality, though his poetry also contains verses about worldly things like beloved, wine etc. His real and spiritual poetry enlightened the mind of people and the love for All Mighty Allah and his prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) is increased.
He was an egoist, content and monotheist poet. His poetry reflects the real love for All Mighty Allah and his prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) and the real code and conduct of Islamic way of life. There are a lot of stories about his saintliness and his miracles.
Hafiz-e- Alpuri passed away at the age of 67 years in 1225 Hijhra. He was buried in Alpuri on Khwaza Khela Besham road among lush green mountains near the Ghwarban River.
Some of the verses of the Hafiz-e- Alpuri are stated here.
1. “Sal zala ka oki da Ka’abe na tawafoona,”
“Khar da Masiha ba da Hajiano qareen na she”
Translation; – If the donkey of hazrat Esa (PBUH) walks around Ka’aba a hundred times, He can’t reach the degrees of pilgrims.
2. “Pa daro ka da neizay zakham raghegi”
“Rogh ban a she pa daro zakham da jabay”
Translation;- The wounds of spear can be treated but the wounds of tongue can’t be treated.
3. “Bia mond darweshano khwand da khawro pa kandool ki”
“Hich latafat na ka da shahano jam zareen ta “
Translation;- Saints have tasted such a pleasure in the cup of mud that they never look at the golden cup of the kings.
4. “Dunia sarab da nadanan ye oba yakhey ganri”
“Mahroom tre droomi tashna lab qata’a la aba”
Translation; – This world is mirage and fools mistake it for cold spring of water. But they lose hope when they leave the world with thrust and deprivation.
5. “Pa sro shondo ki wor day hoom oba de”
“Dwarha zest ka pa yaw zai ke be jadala”
Translation; – Fire and water dwell at the same time in red lips without any fighting.
6. “Ta che pa Ghwarband ke shanakht qemat ghwarhi Hafiza”
“Bovi da mushk ghwari da dabgaro pa dukan ke”
Translation; – O, Hafiz! You want identity and value in Ghwarband (Alpuri area). It is as if you want to buy scents in the shop of hides (skins).

It is indeed heartening that the new paktun generation is taking great interest in literature.It is indeed our responsibility to put things in the right perspective by presenting the virtues and the good traditions of the pakhtun qaum.Unfortunately, now a days the pakhtun around the world have been categorised as terrorists by the vested interests and we have to do a lot to wash this wrong impression.
Linking the new generation to literary activities and professing the greatness of the paktun traditions as manifested in our rich heritage and our history, in the works of great leaders like Khushall baba, Rehman baba, Hamza baba and a great deal more, in the great works being currently done by the pukktoon scholars will indeed be a service to our future and current generation.

may be some one not like my comment bcz there is reality. and the world make there strong habet to dislike the truth. but there is only one way for me to share my ideas with all new generation of pathans . and that youth will have to think about those issues to change there minds toward those people who accept challenges like rahman baba and khushal khan khattak. and many pathans leaders who are not more with us. but they are still waiting in there dreams . that some one will born again like them and will fight like them. and thus the world knows again . : chy khushal khan khattak bia jwandy sho pa puhtoon khwa k.

He was just like the SUN come with the heat & light and gone with the same. will be remembered in the hearts & minds of everyone. His poetry never fades away. Apart from his intellectual work, he was a great leader & a fighter. once he said;
